Scripting the First 15 Plays: Understanding a morning routine using football.
A morning routine is intended to get you off to a good start.
In football an offensive coordinator pre-selects a set of plays to run in the first few series. The purpose of this is to a) get the offense into a rhythm b) to see how the defense is planning to stop them and how they are reacting.
How the mind and body
In life a morning routine is intended to get the individual off to a good start to the day and set the tone. Everything contained within this is to get the body and mind into alignment. Being aware of how the mind and body reacts is equally important as there may be hiccups. In football the offense may want to establish the run to start, but if the defense puts extra defenders closer to the action this plan will not work.
The offense may want to veer from their plan and do what they call a play-action pass. This is designed to fake like the they are going to call a run play, which the defense is preparing to stop and instead, throw the ball downfield where there are many fewer players set to stop this. This in turn would loosen up the defense by making them take so many guys who are concentrating on the run and have them be aware of any attempt to pass the ball. This, in turn, would create the situation necessary for the offense to then be able to go back to their game plan of running the ball.
This could be true of a morning routine. If you were trying to meditate and found the mind was in an unrelaxed state you’d have to . You should perform some action that gets it to a place where it can have a sense of stillness and the mind more free. They could do pushups or take a walk or do some laundry, for instance. That would be up to them to decide and determine what’s best for them in that moment. Once they called that play-action they could then go back to running the ball. I.e. continuing their morning routine.
What obstacles have you come across when getting started in the morning? What could you do to distract the distractions and get down to business?
